On Friday, Feb. 2 and Saturday, Feb. 3, the Brock Badgers men's and women's track and field teams continued their season at the York Open in Toronto.
With the OUA (Ontario University Athletics) Championships in a couple of weeks from Friday, Feb. 23 to Saturday, Feb. 24, this meet was a great opportunity for the team to get more preparation.
Sarah Saldutto led the way for the Badgers, finishing the 60-metre hurdles in a time of eight seconds and 56 milliseconds for a program record and a second-place result. The local Welland product also set a program record in the long jump (5.60m), placing fourth.
In the 1000m race, Madelyn Huston bested all competitors to win first in a time of 2:57.85.
Competing in the women's pentathlon, Sajini Ganeshamurthi took home third place in shot put, with a throw of 10.26m and fourth in the long jump (4.83m).
Brielle Greenslade (10.33m) led the Badgers results in the shot put with a fourth-place finish as three other teammates (Megan Jaques - 10.23m, Courtney Anglin - 9.55m, Madison Carvalho - 9.34m) followed directly behind her.
The men's results were led by Keshawn Igbinosun, who placed first in the 600m, with a time of 1:22.80 and Michael Ivanov, who jumped 4.60m in the pole vault to claim first.
Brock earned another podium finish as Colton Spencer placed second in the 60m hurdles (8.15). The local Thorold product initially came seventh in preliminaries, with a time of 8.35 before besting it by twenty milliseconds in the finals.
Isaac Iannarelli and Garrett Wager finished ninth (4:08.68) and 10th (4:09.09),respectively, in the 1500m race.
In the 4x400m relay, the team of Khalifa Badamasi, Jack Sayewich, Tau Dehaney and Ethan Xavier crossed the finish line in 3:39.01 to place second out of four teams.
Up next, the Badgers are back in action on Friday, Feb. 11 and Saturday, Feb. 12 at the Windsor Team Challenge in Windsor.
