First-year goaltender Connor Ungar added to his growing list of awards as U SPORTS crowned him their Rookie of the Year on Wednesday, March 13 at the All-Canadian Awards Cereomny in Toronto.
Along with winning the Clare Drake Trophy for being named the top first-year player in the country, Ungar was also named to a U SPORTS Second Team All-Canadian, and he received a spot on the U SPORTS All-Rookie Team.
Earlier this month, the Calgary product picked up two major awards, winning the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) West Goaltender of the Year and OUA West Rookie of the Year. On top of that, Ungar nabbed spots on the OUA West First Team and OUA West All-Rookie Team.
Setting a new program record of 20 wins by a goaltender in a single season, Ungar was sensational throughout his first year with the Badgers, finishing on top of both Ontario and U SPORTS in victories. The Social Sciences student also had a .932 save percentage (SV%), placing him fifth in the country.
Joining Ungar with national recognition was Jacob Roach who earned a Second Team All-Canadian selection and Jonah Boria who made it on to the All-Rookie Team.
Roach is now a two-time Second Team All-Canadian after also receiving the honour last season. His 40 points put him fourth in the province and 10th in the country. On March 6, the Brooklin, Ont native was also named the OUA West Most Valuable Player and OUA West First Team All-Star for the second consecutive season.
In his first season with Brock, Boria made an instant impact. Finishing with 20 points, the defenceman ranked fifth among the team. Boria's 17 assists tied him with Tyler Burnie and Jared Marino for second on the squad.
