It was a successful trip to the provincial capital for the Brock Badgers men's rugby team.
On the afternoon of Sunday, Sept. 15, the Badgers travelled to Toronto and came away with a 40-14 victory over the Varsity Blues at Varsity Stadium.
The win marks the first for the Badgers this season.
Luke Bagshaw, a fourth-year fly half, led all scorers with 15 points off five penalty converts and one try.
The Badgers put the pressure on early, scoring 21 consecutive points within the first 20 minutes of play.
It was a balanced attack in the end zone for the Badgers as Bagshaw, Dominic Foulkes, Sam Haines, Brady Hanna and Grant Meadows all reached the end zone during the game.
Brock saw their advantage shrink to 26-14 late in the first half, but it was as close as the Varsity Blues would get as the Badgers answered with 14 straight points in the second half.
Defensively, the Badgers were sensational in the second, holding the host side to zero points.
Up next, the Badgers will get the chance to play at home for the first time this year as they welcome in the Trent Excalibur on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Alumni Field. Game time is set for 1 p.m. Last season, the Badgers were victorious over this Excalibur team by a score of 31-20 on Oct. 14, 2023.
