In their 2024 home opener, the Brock Badgers men's rugby team defeated the Trent Excalibur in emphatic fashion.
The strong performance in front of a packed crowd at Alumni Field, saw Brock come out victorious by a score of 43-19 on Saturday, Sept. 21.Â
Luke Bagshaw, a fourth-year fly half, led all scorers with 13 points off one try and four successful conversions.Â
From the opening kickoff, Brock set the tone as Bagshaw opened the scoring six minutes into the contest, followed by Jacob Scanga crossing the try line a few minutes later.Â
Brock held a 26-5 lead at halftime, courtesy of tries from Robin French and Grant Meadows. The Badgers offensive output only ramped up following the break.Â
In the second half, Reuben Cantwell, Greg Taylor and Reon White all reached the end zone, giving Brock a comfortable lead.Â
Two late tallies from the Excalibur were not enough to sink the Badgers as they held strong on the way to victory.Â
Up next, the Badgers will travel to Guelph to take on the defending Ontario University Athletics (OUA) champions, the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 3:30 p.m. The last time these two teams faced off was the 2022 OUA Quarterfinals, where the Gryphons were victorious by a score of 34-33 on Oct. 29, 2022.Â
