Mowry, Watson and Macsai named Brock University Athletes of the Week

Jalyn Mowry (Peterborough, Ont.) of the women's rowing team, Riley Watson (Peterborough, Ont.) of the men's rowing team and Lauren Macsai (Port Colborne, Ont.) of the women's cross country team have been named Brock University Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Oct. 26.

Mowry and the Badgers had a strong showing over the weekend at the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championships in Port Dalhousie, Ont. The Teacher Education major earned gold in the women's double event, with a time of seven minutes, 28 seconds and 684 milliseconds. The fifth-year athlete, alongside rowing partner Teagan Orth finished more than five seconds ahead of the second-place Guelph Gryphons. Mowry also raced in the women's eight event (6:48.034), helping to secure Brock a silver medal. The Badgers earned a fourth-place finish overall, improving by a noticeable margin from last year's seventh-place result. 

The Badgers men's rowing team earned their fifth consecutive OUA title on Saturday, highlighted by two gold medals from Watson. The Medical Sciences major and teammate Jonas Masys crossed the finish line in 6:54.503, taking home gold in the men's double race. Watson was a key contributor for the Badgers in the lightweight eight event, earning Brock's second out of five golds with an impressive time of 6:04.149. The third year rower's strong season was recognized as he earned the OUA Men's Athlete of the Year award. 

Macsai and the Brock women's cross country team pieced together a strong performance at the OUA Championships in Kingston, Ont. on Saturday. The Community Health major placed ninth overall, finishing the eight-kilometre race with a time of 28:20.200. The fifth-year athlete's strong time earned her OUA Second Team All-Star honours. Macsai was the anchor in what would be a memorable weekend for Brock, who placed seventh-overall for their best finish in the modern era.
