In a close overtime battle in Hamilton, the Brock Badgers women's basketball team fell 75-69 to the McMaster Marauders. Madalyn Weinert led the way, recording a double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds, while Ava Stranges put up a new career-high 15 points. The first half saw the Badgers break out to a 40-38 lead. Weinert poured in 22 points and six rebounds, and Stranges tallied eight of her 15 points in the second quarter. Jamie Addy helped the Badgers stay competitive, scoring a team-high seven points in the second half. The Badgers had a great night from the line, outshooting the Marauders 81 per cent to 77 per cent in that category. Additionally, the Badgers bench outscored the Marauders 10-4.

Up next, the Badgers will travel to Toronto for a Friday, Nov. 7 night matchup against the Toronto Varsity Blues at 6 p.m. They then stay in Toronto for a contest on Saturday, Nov. 8 against the TMU Bold, with tip off set for 7 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 1: W 81-75 at McMaster Marauders | Box Score
Written by Connor Bangham, Sports Information Intern

It was an exciting night for the Brock Badgers men's basketball team, who pulled off an impressive 81-75 road victory over the McMaster Marauders in Hamilton. Michael Okeke led the way with 14 points for Brock; 12 of which came from beyond the arc. Three other Badgers saw double-digit point totals, with Michael Matas and Birch Pockar earning 12 each and Isaiah Bujdoso tallying 11 of his own. The game was close throughout as the score was knotted up at 17 after the first quarter. The second quarter was equally tight, with McMaster taking a 37-36 lead into halftime. Brock broke through in the third quarter, earning 28 points and only allowing 19 to hold an eight-point lead entering the final frame. The Badgers closed out the game in the fourth largely in part to their rebound control as overall they grabbed 44 boards to the Marauders' 28 and scored 14 second chance points to their seven.

Brock will look to carry momentum into next week as they travel to Toronto for a showdown with the Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday, Nov. 7 at 8 p.m., which is followed by a clash with the TMU Bold on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.

Women's Hockey
Saturday, Nov. 1: W 3-2 at Nipissing Lakers (SO) | Box Score
Written by Ryan Borroughs, Sports Information Student Assistant

The Brock women's hockey team travelled to Boart Longyear Memorial Gardens in North Bay, Ont., and came away with a 3-2 shootout win over the Nipissing Lakers. Kylee Strano and Carly Sardine both scored their second goals of the season, while Megan Theissen had herself a night, saving 25 of 27 shots and five of six shootout attempts. Nipissing took an early lead, scoring two goals in the first period. The Badgers fought hard to stay in the game, and Strano was able to get the team on the board early in the third. In the dying seconds of regulation, Sardine made no mistake to tie it and force an extra frame. With neither team finding the back of the net in overtime, a shootout was needed to settle the game. Marin Green was the shootout hero for the Badgers, scoring a goal to keep the shootout going, and then in the sixth round, she found the back of the net again to give the Badgers the win. The matchup was very even, with the Badgers outshooting the Lakers 30-28.

Men's Hockey
Thursday, Oct. 30: W 5-2 vs. Waterloo Warriors | Box Score
Written by Matthew Goodman, Sports Information Student Assistant

The Brock Badgers men's hockey team bested the Waterloo Warriors by a score of 5-2 on Thursday night at Canada Games Park. Stephen Calisti, Nicholas Domitrovic, Matt Duarte, Ryan Stepien and Tai York all found the back of the net, scoring one goal each. Goaltender Will Hambley also had an impressive performance, stopping 34 shots for the Badgers. This was the first career OUA goal for York, and he would be the one to open the scoring in the first period on the power play. Domitrovic scored less than a minute later to put the Badgers up by two after 20 minutes of play. Near the end of the second period, Duarte would net the only goal of the frame, and Stepien and Calisti scored their goals in the third. The Warriors tallied their only two goals of the game in the third period, with one coming in the last minute of the contest. The Badgers shot very effectively, being outshot 36-30 but still managing to score five goals.

Saturday, Nov. 1: L 9-3 at Guelph Gryphons | Box Score
Written by Connor Bangham, Sports Information Intern

In their second matchup of the weekend, the Badgers dropped a high-scoring affair in Guelph, Ont., on Saturday, falling 9-3 to the Gryphons at Gryphon Centre Arena. Alexis Cournoyer opened the scoring for the Badgers, while Nathan Fox and Steven Calisti also added goals. After dropping the first period 4-0, Brock made a goaltender change to try and change momentum, replacing Will Hambley with Ben Bonisteel. The Badgers were unable to fend off the Gryphons' attack, surrendering five more goals over the next two frames. Brock made it close in the shots department, putting up 27 to Guelph's 29. Both teams took one penalty each, and the Gryphons capitalized with a goal on their power-play opportunity.

The Badgers will look to get back on track on Thursday, Nov. 6, when they host the Toronto Varsity Blues at Canada Games Park at 6 p.m.

Written by Connor Bangham, Sports Information Intern

In a Halloween thriller, the No. 6 Brock Badgers proved to be too strong to their opponents, defeating the Western Mustangs 3-2 (25-27, 25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 15-10) in the VolleyBoo Bash theme game at Bob Davis Gymnasium. Emily Foest and Madison Tuck were the leaders of the attack, notching 17 points each for Brock, while Mackenna Knox recorded a game-high 45 assists. Foest saw her points come off 15 kills, one service ace and one block, while Tuck earned 14 kills, one service ace and two blocks. 25 points were not enough to decide the first set, and the Mustangs jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 27-25 win. The Badgers bounced back to take a narrow second set 25-23. After dropping the third, Brock demonstrated determination and resilience as they took the fourth set 25-22 to force a winner-take-all fifth. The Badgers prevailed, never giving up the lead from the start and taking the final set 15-10 to cement the comeback victory on home court. Brock won the block battle in decisive fashion 10-4, which proved to be a significant stat in the outcome of the game.

Written by Graydon Bebbington, Sports Information Intern

On the second night of a back-to-back, the Brock Badgers women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (20-25, 17-25, 19-25) decision to the Western Mustangs at Bob Davis Gymnasium. Daryan Chadwick scored a team-high six points from six kills, while Knox was the main setter, recording 19 assists. Despite being down as much as 19-12 in the first set, the Badgers battled back to cut the Mustangs' lead to four. Ultimately, the Mustangs pulled away, taking the opening set and the next two without the Badgers reaching 20 points. Brock showed fight throughout, tallying 25 kills to the Mustangs' 28. In the service department, Western controlled things by notching 11 aces to just three from the Badgers.

The Badgers look to bounce back as they remain home for a doubleheader against the Waterloo Warriors. The first matchup is set for Friday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. and the second will occur on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m.

Leading all scorers in the match was Kylar Code, who delivered 20 points from 17 kills and three service aces, while Adam Shapcott distributed 22 assists. After dropping the first set 25-19, the Badgers found themselves in a tight second frame. It went back and forth in the latter stages, with the two teams deadlocked at 23 before a Western kill and service ace ended the set. Eager to keep fighting, the Badgers won the third frame with a large eight-point margin at 25-17, notching 12 kills and hitting at a .360 clip to just .087 from the visitors.
