McCormack, Ricetto named Brock University Athletes of the Week

Bridget McCormack (Queensland, Australia) of the women's track and field team and Lacey Ricetto (Barrie, Ont.) of the women's curling team have been named Brock University Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Jan. 4.

Kicking off the new year, McCormack and the Badgers were back in action, competing at the Sharon Anderson Memorial Meet on Saturday, Jan. 3 in Toronto. The first-year Business major was sensational, earning a first-place finish in the women's 600-metre race with a time of one minute, 34 seconds and 95 milliseconds. McCormack finished more than three seconds faster than the second-place finisher, while also picking up a sixth-place result in the 300m, posting a time of 41.53 seconds. McCormack is currently ranked No. 4 in the 600m and No. 8 in the 300m in the U SPORTS rankings.

The Badgers women's curling team earned a first-place finish at the McMaster Invitational in Hamilton. Ricetto was an asset at skip, calling five winning games to go undefeated over the two-day bonspiel on Saturday, Jan. 3 and Sunday, Jan. 4. The first-year Teacher Education major executed a key takeout shot to defeat the Trent Excalibur in round robin play, picking up an 8-4 victory. In the finals, Ricetto and the Badgers bested the Excalibur once again, taking an 8-3 decision off of a five-point sixth frame.
