The Brock University women's fastpitch team dropped three of four this past weekend as they split with the Windsor Lancers and dropped two against the defending champion Western Mustangs.
On Saturday Brock faced a tough Windsor team. It took a while for the Badgers to get going in the first game.
Led by the pitching of
Megan Nickel. Nickel faced 19 batters allowing four hits giving up one run as the Badgers won 8-1.
Brianne Jacobs went 2-for-3 with double and a single and
Colleen Albin was 2-for-2 with a double and three runs scored.
The second game the Badgers fell behind early 2-0 and just couldn't cash any runs. Kelsey Hanly pitched the second game for Brock. Hanly went six strong innings giving up two runs on seven hits. The Brock defense struggled in the second game with five errors in the second to allow Windsor to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
On Sunday the Brock badgers travelled to London to face the defending champions Western Mustangs. In the first game of the doubleheader, Western jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first two innings. The Badgers battled back getting within four, but just couldn't hold the Mustangs offense. Western added five more runs to take the first game 15-6.
Kelsey Hanly pitched five innings, giving up 15 runs on 16 hits. Hanly didn't have much help from her defense as Brock had seven errors in the first two innings.
The Badgers were led by Jacobs who was 2-for-4, including a two-run triple. Tina Watkins also added two hits going 2-for-3.
In the second game, the Badgers came out strong and held the Mustangs to one run over four innings. In the bottom of the 4th Western had runners on 1st in 2nd,but it was the Badgers defense turning a double play to take Western out of the inning. The Mustangs pushed a cross six runs in the next two innings as Brock could only get one run in the 6th.
Once again the Badgers defense didn't help their cause. The Badgers had six errors over seven innings against Western.
Megan Nickel pitched seven innings giving up seven runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking three.
Brianne Jacobs and Shannon McGinnis led the Badgers offense both going 2-for-4.
