ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – The Brock University men's soccer team lost a 3-1 decision to the McMaster Marauders Sunday afternoon, dropping their record to 0-2-2.
Just two minutes in, McMaster's Gersi Xhuti beat Brock keeper
Jake Sweetzer (Mississauga, Ont.) to give the Marauders a quick lead. Badgers captain
Erik Van Wissen (Georgetown, Ont.) put his squad back in the game with a goal of his own at the 19-minute mark, evening it up at one.
After no more scoring in the first half, McMaster substitute Nathaniel Morris found his way onto the scoresheet twice in as many minutes ('55 and '57), giving his squad a lead that they would not look back on.
Today's loss for Brock is their second of the season, and now they find themselves sitting seventh in the OUA West standings. Sweetzer stopped five of the eight shots that came his way, while his counterpart for the Marauders Kieran Doyle-Davis allowed one goal on four shots.
Van Wissen's second goal of the season ties him with
Marcus Bernard for the team lead.
The Badgers will now prepare for a pair of games next weekend, as they host both Windsor and Guelph.
