Photo Credit: Vaughn RidleyST. CATHARINES, Ont. – The Brock University men's soccer team (1-6 OUA) lost a heartbreaker 1-0 versus the No. 1 ranked York Lions Saturday afternoon on homecoming weekend.
York opened the scoring midway through the first half, as Stefan Popovic headed the ball top left corner off a corner kick to give the Lions a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute.
For the second straight week, the Badgers young squad battled hard against the top team in the country, but could not get anything going offensively.
Terrance Giangregomo (Burlington, Ont.) would lead the Badgers in shots with two, while it was Joey Cicchillo and Jarek Whiteman for the Lions who each had three shots a piece.
In goal, York starter Colm Vance earned his third consecutive shutout of the season turning away all three shots he faced. Brock starter
Matthew Zaikos (Markham, Ont.) continued to play well in goal making 10 saves on 11 shots.
The Badgers make their next appearance tomorrow at 3:15pm where they will face the Western Mustangs on the road.
