ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – The Brock University women's softball team (5-5 OIWFA) dropped both ends of a doubleheader against the Carleton Ravens Saturday afternoon at Lancaster Park. Brock lost Game One by the score of 1-0 and Game Two 6-2.
In Game One, defense and good pitching dominated the storyline for each team. Brock starting pitcher
Shanna Wilson (Peterborough, Ont.) and Catcher
Alanah Doyle (Jarvis Ont.) worked particularly well together from start to finish holding the Ravens to one run against, only to fall by the score of 1-0.
In Game Two, the score does not illustrate the closeness of the game. The Ravens offense would add six runs over the course of the 3rd inning, ending with a beautiful grab by Brock third baseman
Christina Watkins (Ancaster, Ont.) for a chance to regroup.
The Badgers would answer with an RBI double to centre field by Wilson for a late game rally. Brock would add another run late, but it would not be enough as they dropped a 6-2 decision.
Brock will return to the diamond Sunday morning at home (Lancaster Park, St. Catharines) for a doubleheader at 11am and 1pm when they host the University of Ottawa. These are the Badgers last two home games before the OIWFA Championships, so bring your family, friends and Brock spirit tomorrow to cheer them on to victory.
