KITCHENER, ON - The Brock University men's and women's soccer teams both dropped decisions to the Laurier Golden Hawks on the road Sunday afternoon.
The Brock women were shutout 6-0 by the No. 9 ranked Golden Hawks, dropping their record to 1-3-0. The Brock men remained winless as they fell by the score of 3-1 to drop their OUA regular season record to 0-3-1.
In the women's matchup, Laurier led 4-0 at the half, which included two penalty shots from Katie Bishiop who answered on both. Other goal scorers for the Golden Hawks were Jacky Normandeau, Mackenzie D'Andrade, Tierney Dunham and Maxine Murchie.
In goal, Brock rookie
Marilena Spagnolo (St. Catharines, ON) suffered the loss allowing five goals on 10 shots. In the 59th minute of second half, she was replaced by
Lauren MacCulloch (Welland, ON) who collected four saves.
In the men's game, Laurier jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening half, with goals from Niklas Bauer and Nikola Miokovic. Laurier would get an own goal in the 81st minute to go up 3-0. Brock's
Nathan Briglio (Sault Ste Marie, ON) would break the shutout with four minutes left in regulation for his first goal of the season.
In goal, Brock starter
Matt Zaikos (Markham, ON) registered six saves in the loss. The Golden Hawks goalkeeper Rocco Strazzella turned aside three of the four shots he faced for the win.
The Badgers will be on the road against the Guelph Gryphons on Sept. 11 before returning home on homecoming Weekend when they host the Algoma Thunderbirds Sept 17 and 18. On Homecoming Saturday the women start at 11am and the men 1:15pm.
