Brock softball wins big in three of four

ST. CATHARINES - Beginning their 2022 season with back-to-back doubleheaders at Lancaster Park this weekend, the Brock Badgers softball team impressed winning three of four games, with all three having big margins of victory.

GAME 1: Brock 8 Carleton 0

Shutting out the Ravens in the season opener Haleigh Wilson earned the win in the pitching circle going 4 innings with only one hit conceded, striking out five. Six Badgers hitters recorded an RBI in the win led by a two RBI, one run performance from Raquel Gomes.

GAME 2: Brock 17 Carleton 1

The bats only continued to heat up for the Badgers on Saturday afternoon, highlighted by a five RBI and two run effort from second-year first base Tanis Drover. Leading the team in hits, Holly Hanchiruk went 3-for-4, adding two RBI and two runs as well. Reagan Lalande and Alexis Simpson combined for the win, each pitching two innings and combining on four strikeouts and just one earned run conceded.

GAME 1: Brock 13 Ottawa 2

An 11 run first innings saw the Badgers make quick work of the visiting Gee-Gees. Drover added to her weekend RBI total by finishing 2-for-2 and bringing three runners across the plate, while crossing home twice herself. Outfielder Kaitlyn Hickey was also strong in the batter's box going 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs. 

GAME 2: Ottawa 3 Brock 1

Despite dropping their final contest of the weekend, starting pitcher Wilson was strong going all six innings while conceding just two earned runs on six hits. Drover was the lone Badger to cross the plate.

The OUS season continues for the Badgers next weekend with another pair of doubleheaders. Brock first will welcome the Guelph Gryphons on Friday, Sept. 23 with first pitch scheduled for 7 and 9 p.m. Afterwards, Brock will challenge the Windsor Lancers at Lancaster Park on Saturday, Sept. 24. with times of 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
