The Brock Badgers softball team went 1-1 against the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday (Sept. 23).
Game 1: Brock 6 Laurier 3
Brock started their Saturday off with a win, doubling the Laurier Golden Hawks 6-3.
The Badgers put up three runs in the second, taking advantage of a Laurier error and getting multiple hits.
After Laurier put up a run in the top half of the third, the Badgers responded right away as Brielle Greenslade notched a single to make it 4-1.
Both teams put up two runs in the fifth inning as Brock would hold on to win 6-3.
Greenslade had a team-high two RBI and was joined by Emma Young with a team-high two hits. The Badgers as a team finished with seven compared to Laurier's nine.
Megan Morrow earned her second win of the weekend, giving up only one earned run and four hits in three innings pitched. The starter also added two walks and two strikeouts to her stat line. Reagan Lalande pitched four innings in relief, giving up five hits and one earned run, while striking out two and walking two.
The Golden Hawks finished with six errors, while Brock had four.
Game 2: Brock 6 Laurier 10
Despite taking the lead early, the Badgers fell short in the second contest to the Golden Hawks by a score of 10-6.
Isabella Miller started things off with an RBI triple to give the Badgers a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first. Young's single in the second gave the Badgers a 2-0 advantage.
The lead lasted until the third as Laurier went on a four-run explosion to double up the Badgers 4-2. Brock showed resilience, fighting back with three runs of their own in the top fourth to retake a 5-4 lead. Allegra Ferreira scored two with a single, while Emma Andres brought home a run with a groundout.
A six-run fourth inning for the Golden Hawks would put the game out of reach.
Lalande got the start in the second contest, going three innings and giving up eight hits and four runs. Morrow came in and gave up two hits and four runs (zero earned), while Emma Poulton gave three innings of relief and gave up four hits and two runs (zero earned).
The Badgers had 11 hits in the contest. Tanis Drover and Young had three hits apiece to lead the team. Young finished the day with six hits.
Runs batted in were recorded by Andres, Drover, Miller and Young. Both teams had four errors in the contest.
