Badgers go 2-0 in doubleheader with Waterloo Warriors

The Brock Badgers softball team came up victorious in both their games against the Waterloo Warriors on Sunday (Sept. 25) 

Game 1: Brock 5 Waterloo 1 

In the first game of the doubleheader, Brock took the win over Waterloo 5-1  

Brock got on the scoreboard early, with Emma Andres scoring an inside the park home-run in the bottom of the first. 

Waterloo recorded their only run of the game in the top of the third. 

A dominant bottom of the fourth saw Brock score four runs to take a 5-1 lead. Raquel Gomes and Alexis Simpson both recorded doubles, while Bella Miller and Allegra Ferreira each earned runs batted in. 

Emma Poulton earned the win for the Brock Badgers. Poulton allowed seven hits and zero runs in seven innings pitched. The starter recorded one strikeout and walked none. 

Simpson went 2-3 at the plate, recording a run, while Andres, Miller, Gomes and Ferreira also had one RBI each. 

The Warriors finished with just one error, while Brock recorded three.  

Game 2: Brock 11 Waterloo 4 

In the back half of Sunday's doubleheader, Brock dominated Waterloo, winning 11-4.  

Waterloo took the lead early off a solo home run in the bottom of the first to make it 1-0. 

Brock took the lead back quickly in the top of the second with Simpson and Miller each scoring one run on doubles. Faith Westman scored a run after hitting into a fielder's choice making it 3-1 for Brock. 

Brielle Greensdale batted in a run in the top of the fourth, adding to Brock's lead.  

Brock Badgers scored five runs on six hits in the top of the fourth inning. Andres scored two runs on a double. Gomes, Simpson and Ferreira all drovein  a run in the fourth.  

Ava Ranney earned the win for Brock over Waterloo. The starting pitcher went 2.2 innings, giving up three runs and four hits. Ranney walked just one batter in the win. Emma Poulton pitched 3.1 innings in relief, surrendering four hits and one run.  

Brock recorded an astounding fifteen hits in the game. Andres, Simpson and Ferreira all recorded three hits for the Badgers. Andres, Gomes, Simpson and Westman batted in two runs each. Tanis Drover got on base twice, recording two hits in five plate appearances.  

Up next, the Badgers will head to Stronach Park to take on the Western Mustangs on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
