The Brock Badgers men's tennis team concluded their season in Toronto.
Winning their final match of the weekend, the Badgers settled for a seventh-place finish at the 2024 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championships which occurred at Mayfair Toronto East from Friday, Oct. 11 to Sunday, Oct. 13.
"We are all proud of the way the men's team competed at the OUA Championships. With a lot of returning players who have had strong seasons, we're looking forward to what's in store next year," said head coach Todd Green. "The men's team's victory over McMaster was a highlight for us and was well earned."
OUA Quarterfinal: Brock 2 - Waterloo 5
The Badgers put up a valiant effort and saw singles wins from Nestor Voronych (6-1, 5-7, 6-2) and Evan Goad (4-1 by default).
It was not enough as the Waterloo Warriors won the other five matches to book their ticket to the semifinals.
OUA Consolation Semifinal: Brock 0 - Ottawa 5
In their consolation semifinal matchup, the Badgers were unable to best the Ottawa Gee-Gees in any singles matches as they fell 5-0.
OUA Seventh-Place Match: Brock 3 - McMaster 2
Brock ended their season on a high note, capturing seventh with a thrilling 3-2 win over the McMaster Marauders.
Evan Goad (8-5), Jaden Chamberlain (8-6) and Alex Williams (8-1) all claimed victory in their respective singles matches to help earn the close win in five sets.
"A special thank you goes out to Jaden who is graduating," Green said. "Jaden's singles win over McMaster was the deciding match win and it was so great to see him finish up his career in that way."
The Badgers sandwiched their season with wins, starting the year with a 5-2 victory over the Waterloo Warriors and then finishing the OUA Championships with the aforementioned 3-2 decision against the McMaster Marauders.
