Badgers fall in Toronto against Lions and Varsity Blues

The Brock Badgers men's tennis team were defeated by the York Lions and Toronto Varsity Blues on the weekend.

Brock first travelled to Toronto to compete at the Mayfair Club on Saturday, Sept. 21, succumbing 6-1 to York. On Sunday, Sept. 22, the Badgers travelled to Toronto's Scarborough Campus, where they were shut out 7-0 by the Varsity Blues.

Brock 1 - York 6

The Badgers opened the day with Alex Williams and Ethan From losing in their doubles match 8-6. Brock would go on to lose their other two doubles matches by scores of 8-5 and 8-3 against York.

Nestor Voronych clinched the Badgers' lone point with a 6-4 first-set victory, with his opponent Christian Giusto retiring.

In singles matches, Alex Cristiano won his first set by a score of 6-2 before dropping the next sets 7-5 and 10-7.

The Badgers fell the remaining five matches in straight sets to the Lions.

Brock 0 - Toronto 7

Looking for a bounce back in their second outing of the weekend, Brock were bested in their doubles matches by scores of 8-2, 8-3 and 8-3 by Toronto.

The Badgers had strong showings in the opening sets with From suffering 6-4 defeat but unable to continue any momentum in the second set, losing 6-1.

Cristiano could also not build on a 6-4 first-set loss, coming up short in the second set 6-0.

The Varsity Blues claimed straight-set victories in all six matches.

Up next, the Badgers will return home to the Youngs Sportsplex where they will face the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday, Sept. 28 and the Western Mustangs on Sunday, Sept. 29.
