Badgers bested by Lancers in Friday doubleheader

The Brock Badgers softball team suffered a two-game sweep at the hands of the Windsor Lancers.

Strong hitting from the visiting Lancers helped propel them to 6-1 and 10-2 victories against the Badgers on Friday, Sept. 14 at Lancaster Park.

Game 1: Brock 1 - Windsor 6

The Brock Badgers finished the contest with a 8-7 hit advantage, but it was the visitors who got timely hitting, finishing with six runs scored.

Tanis Drover drove in the lone run for the Badgers, scoring Emma Andres on a single in the bottom of the first inning. Both Drover and Andres finished the contest with two hits each.

After going up 2-0 to start the game off a three-hit first inning, the Lancers did not look back, scoring in three more innings to build a comfortable lead.

Reagan Lalande earned the start for the Badgers and pitched six innings, giving up seven hits and five earned runs. Lalande also walked three batters while striking out one. First-year pitcher Madison Parrish came in to deliver one scoreless inning in her Brock Badgers debut.

Brock gave up two errors compared to one from Windsor.

Game 2: Brock 2 - Windsor 10 (six innings)

Alexis Simpson led the Badgers with two runs batted in (RBI), bringing home a run on a single in the top of the first to tie the game. Simpson then followed it up with an RBI groundout in the top of the fifth, cutting the Lancers' lead in half to 4-2.

The visitors kept the pressure scoring three runs in both the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to end the game early in six innings of play.

Drover also notched two hits in the contest and was joined by Brielle Greenslade who also delivered two of her own in Game 2 for the Badgers.

Emma Poulton started Game 2 and went the full six innings, giving up nine hits and ten runs. Due to Brock's nine errors in the contest, only three of those runs were earned by Poulton.

Windsor in contrast had zero errors, playing a flawless game defensively,

In addition, Poulton added four strikeouts and two walks to her final stat line.

Up next, the Badgers have a quick turnaround, playing the Western Mustangs in a doubleheader on Saturday, Sept. 14. Game times are set for 2 p.m. and then 4 p.m. or whenever the first contest ends.
