The Brock Badgers softball team finished the weekend with a pair of losses to the Western Mustangs.
Western used high-powered offence to defeat Brock 7-6 and 11-1 on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Lancaster Park.
Game 1: Brock 6 – Western 7 (eight innings)
The Badgers hopes of a walk-off comeback fell short as they were defeated at home in extra innings.
Emma Andres recorded a team-high two runs batted in (RBI), as she finished the game going 1-for-4.
Brock once had a three-run lead late in the game that later vanished as Western tied it in the sixth inning.
Three errors in the field by the Badgers in the top of the eighth led the Mustangs to take a 7-4 advantage.
The Badgers displayed great plate discipline as they forced the Mustangs into a hit by pitch and back-to-back walks. Despite having two runners in scoring position, Brock was unable to score the tying run.
Reagan Lalande, a fourth-year pitcher, got the start in the circle for the Badgers throwing a complete game, pitching eight innings and giving up nine hits and six runs (three earned). Lalande finished the game walking none to go along with seven strikeouts.
Brock committed four errors in comparison to Western's three.
The Mustangs outhit the Badgers nine to five in the contest.
Game 2: Brock 1 – Western 11 (four innings)
The Mustangs shined offensively with 12 hits as they defeated the Badgers in just four innings.
Mackenna Nagy drove in the Badgers' lone run of the game with a sacrifice fly to cash in Ryan Schepers in the top of the fourth inning.
Tanis Drover and Aleksandra Ruksenas each recorded a hit; the only two for Brock in the game, while Alexis Simpson drew two walks.
The Mustangs started the game off effectively as they quickly took a 5-0 lead and kept their foot on the gas, scoring at least one run in all four innings as the game was called early.
Lalande started the second game, recording one out and allowing four runs on four hits.
Emma Poulton and Madison Parrish combined for 2.2 innings in relief. Poulton gave up three runs that were all unearned while Parrish surrendered four with two being earned.
The Badgers struggled to limit the defensive lapses, committing five errors, while the Mustangs played a clean game in the field.
Up next, the Brock Badgers look to get back in the win column as they head on the road to face the Guelph Gryphons in Guelph in a two-game series on Friday, Sept. 20. Game 1 is set for 7 p.m. while the second game will begin at 9 p.m. or at the conclusion of the first contest.
