It was an exchange of blowouts between the Brock Badgers and Queen's Gaels during the season-opening doubleheader.
The Gaels took the first contest 12-1 in five innings before the Badgers earned a 14-5 victory in the second.
Originally scheduled to take place at Lancaster Park on Saturday, Sept. 7, the doubleheader was moved to Centennial Sports Complex in Niagara-on-the-Lake due to field conditions.
Game 1: Brock 1 - Queen's 12 (5 innings)
Brock's lone run came from a Brielle Greenslade solo home run in the bottom of the second. The RBI from Greenslade brought the Queen's lead to 6-1 after two innings.
The Gaels put up 12 runs in the first contest off 13 hits.
A four-run third inning and two-run fifth added to the Gaels advantage. The contest was called after five innings of play.
Taking the mound for the Badgers in Game 1 were Reagan Lalande and Ryan Schepers.
The Badgers mustered three hits and gave up four errors in the while the Gaels played a flawless game defensively.
Queen's was led by Katie Morrison who had three hits and four runs batted in (RBI).
Game 2: Brock 14 - Queen's 5
Flipping the script in the second contest, Brock scored runs in five of the seven innings played which was culminated by a strong five-run seventh inning.
Ava Ranney led the way for the Badgers with three hits and five RBI. Ranney's third hit was a grand slam in the final frame.
Greenslade also found the fences for the second time in the day, blasting one in the top of the first.
The Badgers outhit the Gaels 8-6 in the contest but did give up six errors. Queen's had two errors of their own.
Though the Gaels scored four to take a 4-3 lead after one inning of play, it was all Badgers from there, outscoring the visitors 11-1.
Emma Poulton went the distance, pitching all seven innings for the Badgers. The starting pitcher gave up six hits and five runs, but none of the runs were earned. The Milton, ON product also finished with one strikeout and one walk.
Eight different Badgers crossed the plate in the blowout win.
Up next, the Badgers host the York Lions for a doubleheader on Sunday, Sept. 8 at Lancaster Park at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
