Candi Jirik (Clarkson) - Women's Basketball (1982-1984)
Candi Jirik (Clarkson) was a member of the women's basketball team from 1982-84. Prior to joining the Badgers, Jirik was named an All Canadian in three seasons with the University of Guelph (1977-1980). During that time, Jirik was also a member of the Canadian Women's National Team and she would continue playing for Team Canada while with the Badgers. In 1979, Jirik helped Team Canada win three bronze medals at three different tournaments beginning with the World Championships in Seoul, South Korea. She would then take home bronze at the Pan American Games in Puerto Rico and the FISU Games in Mexico. In the same season that she joined the Badgers (1982), Jirik competed at the World Championships in Brazil where the Canadian team finished in eighth place. The first season at Brock University was a successful one for Jirik, as she was named Co-Athlete of the Year alongside swimmer Kathy Richardson. In 1983, Jirik and the Canadian team finished fourth at the Pan American Games in Venezuela. The following year, Jirik competed in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics where Canada's women's basketball team lost the Bronze medal game to China by the score of 63-57. At the end of her University career, Jirik was third in career average points per game (21.5) and third in career rebounds (521). She also held the record for most points in a game with 49 in the 1982-83 season. The same season in which the Badgers won the OWIAA Women's Basketball Championship.
