of the most influential figures in Canadian basketball history.
Over a 27-year coaching career with the Badgers women’s basketball program, Critelli recorded 393 victories, six divisional titles and one Ontario Women's Interuniversity Athletic Association (OWIAA), now Ontario University Athletics (OUA), championship. She later served 10 years as Brock’s Assistant Athletic Director.
In recognition of her contributions, Critelli received the OUA John McManus Award in 2015, honouring retired coaches who exemplify the highest ideals of sportsmanship and service. In 2016, the league further recognized her legacy by naming its women’s basketball championship trophy
the Critelli Cup.
Critelli coached Canada’s junior national team (1986-88) and senior national team (1989-94), while also leading Team Ontario to a national gold medal in 1985 and her Juvenile Development Program to an Ontario Basketball Association (OBA) title in 1998.
A decorated athlete, Critelli captured Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union (CIAU), now U SPORTS, national titles with Laurentian in 1976-77 and 1977-78 and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championships with Old Dominion in 1979-80 and 1980-81, remaining the only individual to win both CIAU and NCAA titles. She also represented Canada internationally for seven years, including at the 1976 Olympic Games.
Inducted into the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame (1998) and the St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame (1999), Critelli’s career is marked by excellence, leadership and a lasting impact on generations of athletes and coaches.
